Being a Millennial mom and all, I'm constantly struck by the changed society in which we're raising the next generation — the digital natives who will never know a world before social media and iPhone apps. It started with us youngsters of Generation Y, sure, but our kids (Generation Z?) will never know the before and after transformation. This is their new normal.
And so that got me thinking about the cliché advice we heard growing up, and how we might need to revamp for the next batch of kids. Because while the underlying message is still valid, they'll be applied in a new social structure, with new norms and new concerns.
Here are some of my suggestions (more over at Babble.com!). Whattaya think?
"Life is what happens when you're busy making other plans."
"SING like no one is listening; LOVE like you've never been hurt; DANCE like nobody is watching."
"If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all."
"Actions speak louder than words."
"Think before you speak."
