When it comes to “mom style,” my long hair has been a constant struggle. I’ve contemplated chopping it into a shorter mom-ish ‘do, but I hate to lose the youthful, feminine length that I love. And I just can’t rock a bob or pixie cut — as much as I wish I could. Yet blowing out and straightening my long, thick hair is much too time consuming for a daily look, so I often (read: religiously) twist it into an easy low-lying bun. Like, every day.
While searching for new hair ideas, I saw this hair tutorial on one of my favorite blogs, A Cup of Jo. It’s crazy simple, super chic and just might be the variety I need. See the step-by-step hair tutorial at A Cup of Jo.
Did anyone make a drastic hair style change after having a baby? I’m almost ready for a change…

I cut off 17 inches of my hair a month after my baby girl was born. But I had had short hair before and she was my third baby, so I knew I would like it and need the quicker fixing/drying time. Plus I turned 30 two weeks later and my hair just felt too…long. and young? I don’t know. But I miss it.

I’ve had four babies, and I do a massive chop after each one, and then grow it all back out. The last baby sent me to a pixie cut, which I loved, but since I also love long hair, I’m growing it back out. I do love this triple bun–so cute!

I know exactly what you mean. I know I’m going to get to an age (probably around 28 – 32) where shorter hair feels a little more appropriate, a little more mature. I’m not sure I want to go for the cut until I reach that point. I know I’d regret it.

Emilee: I’m so jealous. I WISH I would look good with a pixie cut. Emma Watson’s hair cut was so inspiring.

I chopped mine right after i got married, i had been growing it for almost 2 years with my wedding in mind, so im not sure if it was that or the fact that we started trying to get pregnant on our honeymoon and i was already in im sick of my hair mode. i went from well past my shoulders to above shoulders in front and a little shorter in the back, then after i had my first baby i went even shorts, now my second and last baby is about to be one i am on the way to grow it back out, i will def. save this in my bookmarks, as i long for long hair i know in my everyday Mommy life it will drive me NUTS if its in my way!

SOOO, I think it’s taken me about 5 years to grow my hair with a few small chops here and there to keep it healthy (in between swimming, blow drying, and straightening, it needed it sadly!) haha. BUT my mom just went to this new salon – and loves it there because the hair stylist suggests natural whenever she can. Well, they have a bunch of natural things – one of which being a “straightening”; and it doesn’t have formaldehyde in it like most of the other ones. My mom said she let her smell it and it only smells like water. She said on curly hair it lasts about 5 to 6 months… mines just wavy, SO I’m hoping it will help me out! Because I not only do NOT want to cut my hair yet either, I also can’t for the sake of my face not looking like a blimp!

You mean like a chemical straightener without the chemicals?? PLEASE let me know how that works! I’m so interested. I had my hair “thinned” after Noah was born and I think it destroyed my hair texture. To be fair, I was warned that it would. But I used to let my hair dry naturally into a pretty wave, and now it dries frizzy and not-at-all manageable. Let me know, Jess!

I chopped my hair off after my son was born. Its a more typical mom style I guess, but it still feels young. I was worried about losing a lot of the youthfulness long hair brings, but being that I’m 25 its doesn’t age me, just looks more sophisticated and put together. But I do wish I could do this style its so pretty!!!

I chopped all of my hair off right after Jack was born. I grew up with blonde, super-curly hair, and during pregnancy it darkened and went completely straight. It’s so weird to me that less than a year ago I had ringlet-curly hair!! But I figured, why not? This is the first time in my life I could do something like that!

After my first one was born I cut all of my super curly hair off. As my hair grew back out I realized it was way less curly that it had always been. Now after my second my hair is down to the middle of my back and is semi curly; I keep deliberating cutting it off because it’s just so hard to manage, even though I know I’d regret it! Wish I could pull off an Emma Watson cut!
